Learning to play the banjo has been a real eye opener during this second lockdown.

As a life-long drummer, I never grasped the form of scales and keys…. I never had to!

Finding the right teacher has been essential. For me clawhammer Banjo is also percussive and I am enjoying the process of training my brain and hands to do something completely out of the norm. Thanks to Evie Ladin and Tom Collins for the guidance.

Last night, on my Deering Goodtime II, I cracked a basic version of Cripple Creek, I’ll practice more and share a clip soon.

As Steve Martin says: “The banjo is such a happy instrument – you can’t play a sad song on the banjo – it always comes out so cheerful.”
